Hoping for charm and Camelot
February 11th, 2008 by ME . Political . No CommentsI haven’t felt much like being self-righteous lately and going on endless (and hollow) rants. Lots of things floating around my head (good and bad)…and damn this Pearl Jam song fits so well with my mood right now (Low Light).
But what I’m trying to say is, what kind of person can I be if I can’t even act out on what I say I believe? Andrew Carnegie once said, “As I grow older, I pay less attention to what men say. I just watch what they do.” So…I’m practicing as much as possible…
Now that I’ve given an intro to what I want to say…perhaps I have shown a little “IMveryHO.” <- That’s a little funny.
I always find myself not being hard enough for my conservative brothers. I too often believe in second chances or excuse the way people act. I sit around and say, yes, I believe in the death penalty (but I would try to understand why they did what they did and would find myself not being able to put one in ‘em if I was the executioner). Yes, I believe that you should die if you kill yourself (but I would try to swerve). Yes, YOU should F’n starve if you don’t work hard enough to feed yourself (but, I would NEVER let someone die in front of me from starvation). So I feel like a hypocrite.
But here I stand and believe with almost everything that I am that if you work hard (and smart) that you should not be FORCED into taking care of your fellow man. No one person should ever force that upon any other one person. The successful and hard working should NEVER be penalized for being that which God put us on the Earth to do.
I understand that some people will never be able to help themselves…fine, but able bodied (and minded) people should never be stealing from those that actually created value in their lives (and interestingly enough, for others).
I find myself cheering on Obama because I shudder to think what kind of socialistic hell Clinton might bring to this wonderful nation. Then I read this column by Michael Tanner. It was talking about how Obama has been comparing himself to JFK.
It talks about how Obama has proposals to create the largest tax increase in U.S. history (1.3 trillion hike over 10 years). Whose pockets do you think that comes from? The rich (those who have worked hard and sacrificed to earn that money…or value).
He goes on to point out that in the National Journal, “Obama is actually the most liberal U.S. Senator, with a voting record actually to the left of Bernie Sanders, Vermont’s self proclaimed socialist.” WHAT??? Even if this was incorrect, how could this guy even be close to someone as left as a socialist, much less to the left of that guy!
I liked this paragraph in his column as well:
“But the surviving Kennedys are also symbols of the darker side of 1960s liberalism: The bloated, bureaucratic welfare state. Ted Kennedy’s liberalism gave us welfare as we knew it, and spent $11 trillion on federal programs fighting poverty without reducing it. It raised taxes until they discouraged work, investment and innovation. It created an ethic of entitlement and dependence on government.
AND THAT IS WHAT I’m talking about. Who would make YOU want to work harder than the next dude if you get paid the same as he does? Why do you think there were so many damn starving people in communist Russia? I read the other day that there are estimates that over a million people died from starvation in North Korea. Why would you work harder if you weren’t rewarded for it? How many of you are enjoying your extra tax refund? Why is it fair that the rich get taxed more than the poor? Why is it their responsibility to take care of us??
Example I heard today on the Dave Ramsey show: This dude writes an email asking how much he would save up if he saved his 61 cents (from buying sodas each day) and put them in a good mutual fund for 40 years. Around $211,000. Wow. $.61. Have you really paid attention to what you have spent your money on today? How far could $211,000 go in some poor country? Perhaps we should take your coke and FORCE YOU to send it to North Korea.
For any of you that like to say that the Right is uniformed can suck it. You can’t deny the underlying philo. How many times have you thought you deserve a raise?
